VINCE STAPLES AND KILO KISH MAKE A BIG IMPACT WITH UNDERSTATED STYLE ON THE TONIGHT SHOW

It’s a testament to Vince Staples and Kilo Kish’s subtle sophistication that they were able to draw attention away from a larger-than-life video of Damon Albarn (whose face was plastered on a huge screen behind the stage) with their minimal and slightly off-kilter outfits on last night’s Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Staples continues to craft raps with a profound attention to detail on his new album Big Fish Theory, and this careful consideration clearly extends to his style as well. Wearing a crisp, clean shirt from Cos and pleated Moncler track pants, Staples performed Big Fish highlight “Love Can Be . . .” alongside a similarly refined Kish, who sported a Pre-Fall black Chanel suit with white accents.

While Kish continues her hot streak of suited looks that, as stylist Eric McNeal explains, stem from her desire to “look as effortless as possible,” Staples wanted to bring a “wild card” factor to his deceptively simple outfit, which could have easily remained traditional if not for McNeal’s collar-doctoring. Staples requested that McNeal do something “really cool and interesting with the collar,” so McNeal quickly “took half of the collar off and stitched it down on the right side.” Overall, Staples and Kish both looked as sharp as they sounded last night, each bringing their distinct signatures.
